Planned &
Legacy giving

When you include the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary in your estate planning, you can be confident that your legacy will help native ecosystems and provide lifesaving care for injured and orphaned wild animals. Planned gifts are vital in supporting a dynamic, healthy future for the Sanctuary and for the natural world.

There are many ways to support the Sanctuary through estate planning – starting with a bequest through a will. You may also amend your current will with a codicil to designate a gift to the Sanctuary.

Specific Asset/Amount language example

“I give $________ [or describe asset] to the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary, a nonprofit corporation of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to be used for general purposes as determined by the Board of Directors.”

Remaining Asset/Amount language example

“I give to the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary, a nonprofit corporation of the Commonwealth of Virginia, all [or ____ percent] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for general purposes as determined by the Board of Directors.”

You may also help support our mission by naming the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary as the beneficiary of your:
  • IRAs & retirement accounts
  • Life insurance policies
  • Stocks, bonds, or other securities
  • Mutual funds or bank accounts

These beneficiary designations can often be made online or with a phone call. Through thoughtful estate planning, you may be able to receive tax and income benefits during your lifetime through remainder trusts and gift annuities.

We recommend consulting your attorney or financial advisor for guidance on which option might be right for you.

Supplies & In-kind gifts

Check out our Amazon Wish List for a quick and easy way to send the Sanctuary an item we really need!

Running a supply drive is an excellent way to directly support our animal care work! This is a fabulous option for children in particular who want to help the Sanctuary but are too young to volunteer hands-on (18+).  In general, we are in need of:
  • Unscented, plain tissues
  • Paper towels
  • Fleece blankets & bath towels in good condition (no holes)
  • Puppy training pads
  • Dawn dish soap
  • Sponges
  • Food Lion gift cards
  • Blue Ridge Farmers Co-op gift cards
  • Newspaper (without magazine/plastic inserts - paper only)

Are you an artist? Do you run a business? We are always interested in in-kind donations of art, unique items, local services, and experiences that we may use in exciting fundraising events like raffles or auctions. You receive an in-kind donation receipt for the value of your donation, and the Sanctuary will celebrate your generosity and your business throughout our event. If you have any questions, please contact us using the form below. Thank you for supporting wildlife!

Time & talent

The Sanctuary only soars when powered by a mighty team of caring humans. Every person has talents or time they can lend to RWS. Learn more about our volunteering opportunities and get in touch today!

Volunteer

Please note that we are closed to the public in order to maintain a natural setting for our wildlife patients. We do offer the ability to schedule a tour or small group viewing, but these must be scheduled in advance. Please email us at info@rockfishwildlifesanctuary.org if you are interested in scheduling a tour. We look forward to sharing RWS with you!
Due to a high volume of requests, we are currently unable to book educational programs until the beginning of June 2024.
