If you’ve ever visited Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary, you know our driveway is…something else. 😅
This steep climb is the first challenge every injured or orphaned wild animal (and their courageous rescuers!) must overcome before receiving lifesaving care.
Today, we’re kicking off our Giving Tuesday campaign to rebuild the road to recovery. We’d love for you to be part of it.

We also made a brand-new video showing why this driveway matters so much. 🎥
It features lots of adorable behind-the-scenes patient footage and you also get to see our executive director roll around on the driveway. (The things we do for RWS!)
Each of the 800–1,000 animals we care for annually travels up this road in carrier bins, stacked in transport crates, tucked in incubators, or rushed in by our rescue partners. A safer, stabilized driveway means:
- 🚨 Faster emergency intake for wild animals facing life-or-death circumstances
- 🧘 Reduced stress for animals during their trip to safety
- 🚌 Easier access for buses and vans carrying students up to the Sanctuary for educational programs
- 🩹 Less damage to the cars of our generous volunteer animal care force
- ⛈️ Year-round reachability, even after storms
Our goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise $15,000 toward professional grading, resurfacing, and a geocell grid installation to stabilize the gravel for years to come. We know a driveway isn’t glamorous, but it’s essential infrastructure for every part of our mission.
If you’ve ever cheered on a wildlife release, followed a patient story, or celebrated the good our community makes possible for native wildlife, we hope you’ll consider making a gift today. Every single dollar helps!
Thank you for being part of the Sanctuary’s work!
